Girl Walk // All Day (77 minutes, 2012) is the feature-length dance film sensation directed, filmed, and edited by Jacob Krupnick. Shot almost entirely in public spaces of New York, the film follows three dancers who tell a story of love, adventure, and urban discovery entirely through dance.
Girl Walk is an unconventional film in nearly every way: eschewing dialogue, the story is told through movement, and is set to All Day (2010) an unstoppable score of mashup music by Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis). The film was crowd-funded through Kickstarter, and also incorporates crowd-sourcing and social-media-driven participation in many scenes throughout the piece.
Since 2012, Girl Walk has been shared at several dozen film festivals around the world, including SXSW 2012, Munich Film Festival, SF IndieFest and Glasgow Film Festival.
In sharing the film, we've encouraged repurposing public and other pre-existing spaces into large, public theaters. We've enjoyed sharing the project in a huge range of exciting spaces -- from the contemporary art museum at the largest university in Mexico City to a remote fjord in Iceland to St. Paul's Chapel, the oldest church in New York City. Other venues have included: MASS MoCA, Brooklyn Museum, Coney Island, The Ace Hotel (PDX) and at Bonnaroo. Screenings are often accompanied by live DJs, dance parties and dance performances.
Cast & crew have also traveled widely, speaking about the production of the film and innovative use of both off-and-online tools to propel the success of the film. Girl Walk // All Day is available for free online and continues to be screened in immersive, interactive environments around the world.
